Taiji also known as Tai chi is one of the better known of the Grand Internal Chinese Martial Arts.
Taiji, short for T'ai chi ch'üan, or Taijiquan, is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both self defence training and especially for its health benefits. The term taiji first appeared in ‘The Book of Changes’, written over 3000 years ago. It refers to the most primitive state, the origin of Yin and Yang, the highest realm of existence. Principles described briefly by the terms yin, yang and taiji are found in many aspects of nature, and describe both the moves and the underlying philosophy.
The regular practice of Taiji leads to a variety of improvements in health and well being. Apart from improving bodily strength, balance and flexibility, regular practice leads to much improved relaxation and mental focus.
Taiji can be started at any age (over about 10) and can be continued well into great age. Anthony has taught students who were well into their 80’s.
Join one of several groups of students practising together at one of Step 55’s venues around Jersey.
Beginners are most welcome. For more than 25 years, Anthony has taught students who had a wide range of experience from newbies to some who have practiced for decades.
For the technical, and for those who wish to continue previous experience, we practice 8, 16 and 24 step in standardised Yang style Taiji. There are more complicated hand and weapon forms that can follow for those interested.
Anyone who wishes to join a class can call Anthony Hopkin 07797-767-959 or
